Writing is an art!…

As you may already know I’m writing a book for my final school project. It has been a long road of understanding how to write a book and actually doing it, with a lot of ups and downs. To tell you the truth I have to understand how to write properly, since a book is not the same as a quick blog post.
In my search for writing enlightenment I have come across a lot, believe me a lot of problems to really start writing. It’s not easy to write a school report, usually we avoid such tasks as much as we can. But writing a book takes this to the new level. Some of my problems have been solved with organization tips. Setting dates to write certain stuff and aiming to keep it as simple as possible. But enough of my book the point was to talk about tips for writing!.
Here are a few of my own tips to write long texts:
- Don’t go for it in one session. I know you are skilled and good at writing but hey it’s bad for you to go for 15 pages all in one session. You will miss some points or start repeating yourself. The best I could recommend is to divide those pages in smaller portions that can adjust to your won times.
- Write on hand first!. I know you must be yelling at me, but writing with pen (or pencil) and paper is far better for you. You can think better what you are doing and you often avoid common mistakes. Beside this way you can re-read your work when you type it in your computer.
- Focus in the idea. I use a lot of stuff for my book that’s why I spend some time dividing everything in different chapters and sub-chapters. Titles often help me to focus in the idea of that small part. This way my ideas don’t get mixed and I end with good results.
- Set dates. Say something like: “I will get to the end of the chapter in the next 2 weeks” and make the huge effort to go for it. This small goals can motivate you and keep you writing for a long time.
- Don’t copy. I know you have your favorite writers or the info on a page is damn cool. Well avoid copying it read the whole thing and then write from what you understand but don’t copy the same on your work. This aids you to know what you are talking about and you express it as you see fit.
This are just a few tips but our friends of lifehack.org have some nice tips for your writing needs so read a lot and have a nice writing!.
